All SPRING 2021 Classes

The list below is subject to change by season based on popularity and enrollment.

All classes for the SPRING SESSION BEGIN the week of April 19 and run thru the week of June 14, 2021.  Classes are offered in-person/hybrid/online. See below for details.

Most In-Person Classes will be held outside on our Academy lawn.  Those allowed to work indoors will follow CDC guidelines including maintaining strictly adhered to social distancing measures and mask requirements.  Some classes remain online.  See below for details:

MONDAYS:

Storymaking

Do you like making and writing stories out of anything? In this class, we’ll explore all different ways to create your very own stories — from drawing, to acting and improv, to making our very own play! This class is perfect for your little ones who want to act and create their own stories and have their ideas come to life! NOTE: This class will be taught virtually on Zoom.

Grades: 3 – 5 | Tuition: $173.00 | Class Time: Mondays at 4:30pm – 5:15pm | Location: Virtually on ZOOM

 

Creative Writing

Perfect for the budding writer who wants a head start in writing fun characters, descriptions, and even PLAYS! We will give our students who join us a fun writing activity that helps get kids excited about how important writing is to the theater. Come join us and see just how FUN writing can be! NOTE: This class will be taught virtually on Zoom Or In-person as desired.

Grades: 6 and up | Tuition: $173.00 | Class Time: Mondays 5:15 – 6:15pm | Location: In-Person OR On-Line optional.

 

Speak Up! An Intro to Public Speaking/Communications 

Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate, redefined the critical importance public speaking has in the success of our children.  This powerful class is designed to provide leadership tools and confidence building for youth to help them gain confidence in all areas of their social lives including class presentations, social interaction and confidence in basic life skill requirements including interviews.  We will explore a smorgasbord of great speaking tips through poetry, famous speeches from great leaders over the ages, comedy routines and persuasive speech.  This class will easily compliment your child’s development and bring less stress as they navigate their educational and emotional changes during teen development. NOTE: This class will be taught virtually on Zoom Or In-person as desired.

Musical Theater Productions

This spring we are rebooting our shows stalled from last Spring 2020.  If you did not audition last year but would like to participate in one of our musicals please contact kidzkonnectionct@gmail.com or call 860-227-2363 for any availability.  All productions will be held outside on the beautiful Academy lawn in this spring and summer to a limited sized audience.  NOTE ~ These rehearsals will be on the lawn at the Academy but students may opt in on-line when requested.  Performances will be IN-PERSON for a restricted sized audience or cast only live-streamed to an audience.

Animation Nation

Have you always wanted to see your own stories and characters come to life as animated cartoons? Then sign up for this class! We’ll work together to draw and create characters, make up our own story, and create a movie! NOTE:This class will be taught virtually, via Zoom.

Fight Choreography/Slapstick Comedy

A fun and energetic 8-week class for students looking to learn or improve their ability to perform choreographed fights on stage. In this class, students will learn the basics of physical stage-fighting using fake weapons and their bodies. Students will explore everything from slap-stick humor to fully choreographed sword-fights. NOTE ~ This class will be in person only at the Academy.

Tap/Jazz Combo for the Tween & Teen Beginner

A traditional 8-week class for students looking to improve their dance skills. Many young people discover theater over time and once bit by the bug realize they are missing essential dance skills to get top roles in high school theater or professionally.  This class is designed to teach the older actor the critical basics to tap dancing in an age-friendly environment.  This high energy, full of fun moves class will have you tapping with confidence at auditions in no time!  NOTE ~ This class will be in person at the Academy but students may opt in on-line when requested.

Advanced Tap

All students who wish to participate in this class must be evaluated by our head dance teacher/ choreographer, Maria Lonetti. This class is for advanced level performers who have prior experience with dance and/ or theater.  NOTE ~ This class will be in person at the Academy but students may opt in on-line when requested.

THURSDAYS:

Backstage Basics

Want to be part of the theater arts but performing isn’t your thing?  Try learning about the behind the scenes of putting on a show.  In this 4 week class, students will learn the basics of all things backstage. Each week students will spend time on a different aspect of backstage work including, sound and lighting training, stage manager, prop master and stage crew to help you discover what may most interest you when working behind the scenes. Students in this class are expected to be present during tech week and the final performance. NOTE ~ This class will be in person at the Academy but students may opt in on-line when requested.

Podcasts

Do you enjoy podcasts? How about making your own podcast! In this program, students will explore the many exciting new forms of virtual performance arts!  From podcasts to livestreams we will cover everything from the software that runs the shows to camera and microphone techniques that make them entertaining!  All the software used is free, allowing students to tap into their creativity and make something amazing right from their homes! Themes will be discussed for good online programming, final projects in podcasting shared with our families. It is a new way to perform, act and make our voices heard. NOTE ~ This class will be in person at the Academy but students may opt in on-line when requested.

Advanced Acting/The Blackbox Play

Each season, a small group of students serious about honing their acting skills may participate in a dramatic play.  Play is determined, seasonally, based on class size and may include thought-provoking classics like Diary of Anne Frank and Little Women to modern works such Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead or The Laramie Project.  Pre-screening required.  Parental discretion advised prior to registration as mature content may be performed.  To find out this season’s work and be considered for this program, please email kidzkonnectionct@gmail.com.  NOTE ~ This class will be in person at the Academy but students may opt in on-line when requested.

FRIDAYS:

Beginner Acting/Drama Fun

This once-a-week improvisation class is perfect for the ham of your house who loves to create original material and imagine freely. In this 8 week class, kids play plenty of fun drama games and activities to explore creativity while developing an original skit to perform for family and friends. NOTE ~ This class will be in person only at the Academy.

Friday Night Live Tweens Edition Improvisation Class

This Saturday Night Live-esque 8-week class is perfect for every class clown or budding actor looking to gain more confidence. Students work separately and together to develop comic skits and routines appropriate for each age level. Great for any performer interested in stand-up comedy or improvisational acting. Note: There are no exceptions to grade level placement for this program. NOTE: This class will be taught fully in-person outside on the front lawn of the Academy building.

Friday Night Live Intermediates Improvisation Class

A traditional 8-week class for older students looking for an opportunity to study more serious improvisational techniques without sacrificing the more fun and creative aspects of improv and comedy. This Saturday Night Live-esque class is perfect for every class clown or budding actor looking to gain more confidence. Students work separately and together to develop comic skits and routines appropriate for each age level. Great for any performer interested in stand-up comedy or improvisational acting. This class is a part of the Advanced Acting Trio Class Series. NOTE: This class will be taught fully in-person outside on the front lawn of the Academy building.
